If you are going to add or edit digital images to your website, you’re going to need to know what a pixel is.
Pixels are the smallest controllable piece of information in a digital image and is one color made up of certain percentages of the colors red, green and blue.
There are other terms related to digital images that you’ll need to know as well:
Image dimensions are the length and width of a digital image. It is usually measured in pixels, but some graphics programs allow you to view and work with your image in the equivalent inches or centimeters.
Image Resolution is the number of pixels that make up a square inch. The higher the resolution, the larger the file size. 72 pixels per inch (ppi) is standard for websites.
Red, Green, Blue (RGB) is a mode of creating colors by mixing red, green, and blue in certain amounts. EAch of the three colors has values of 0 to 255.
Hexadecimal is a method of taking three-digit RGB numbers and converting them to two-digit numbers that HTML can understand.
