WordPress Gallery

If you want to add more than a couple of images to your pages or posts, sometimes it can be tricky to make them look nice.

Image galleries are a great option since they group the images into one location on the page or post and align the images uniformly.

Luckily, WordPress has a built-in feature called, ‘Create Gallery.’ It is part of the Media Library and allows you to add a simple image gallery to pages or posts on your website.

Here’s how to use it:

►Login to WordPress if you aren’t already.

►Open the Page or Post to which you would like to add images in edit mode.

►Place your cursor in the location within the Page or Post content that you would like the gallery to appear.

If you want to place in between two blocks of text, consider adding a hard return and placing your cursor on the new line so that there is space above and below.

►Click the Add Media button.

This will open the Media Uploader window.

►Click on the ‘Create a Gallery’ option from the list of actions on the left.

You have the choice to either use images from your Media Library or to Upload Files. Click on the appropriate tab at the top. You can do a combination of both if you want to.

►Click on all of the images you would like to include your gallery.

This will add a checkmark in the upper right corner of each thumbnail to show that it is selected. You will also see a row of thumbnails at the bottom of the window to help you keep track of all the images you’ve selected along with a ‘Clear’ link in case you want to start over.

►When you have selected all of the images you would like to, click on the ‘Create a new gallery’ button in the lower right corner of the window.

This will take you the Edit Gallery window where you can rearrange your images, reverse the order of the images, add image descriptions, remove images, add more images and cancel the gallery.

You can also change the default Gallery Settings in the pane on the right. These include Links to, the number of Columns, an option to show the images randomly and the image size.

►Click on each image and make adjustments to the fields in the right pane.

►Move the images into the order you would like.

►Change the Gallery Settings if you would like to.

►Click on the ‘Insert Gallery’ button in the lower right corner of the window.

This will insert the gallery into your page or post.

If you need to edit anything or add images, click anywhere in the gallery and a menu will appear at the top that includes a pencil icon (edit) and an ‘x’ (delete).

Congratulations! You just created and added a WordPress Image Gallery.
